“Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.” – George Eastman
I recently had the pleasure of photographing the dancers of the English National Ballet Youth Company (ENBYouthCo).
The dancers attend on Friday’s after school at Markova House, London, receiving weekly technique classes in both ballet and contemporary dance led by the youth company’s Artistic Director, Holly Noble. Since its inception in 2012, the company has gone from strength to strength performing at a number of locations and events across London. The talent in the room was wonderful to witness and they all made it look so easy!
Hope you enjoy, Lx
Every year each region within the BIPP (British Institute of Professional Photographers) holds it’s own Awards presenting a chance for photographers in that area to showcase their creativity in a number of different image categories.
I am delighted to find out that my photograph below has won an award at the BIPP SE Region Awards 2014 in the ‘Commercial’ category. More information on the commission for this photograph can be found here
I love small independent cafe’s with a their own personality and charm and this one has it in spades. I was delighted to have the opportunity to photograph V’s Kitchen in Old Amersham, there are so many wonderful things to capture that I could have easily spent the whole day there!
Venetia has created a warm, welcoming environment offering good quality, wholesome, tasty food all freshly prepared on site. Supporting the local producers, she also offers the best of locally sourced deli foods along with a collection of vintage home furnishings and kitchenware.
The coffee is excellent and I can definitely vouch for the bacon baps, lemon drizzle cake, chocolate muffins and flapjacks…yum!
Check out their new web site displaying some of my images.
Love the dishes served on the flowerpots
I had a really fun lifestyle photoshoot in London with Amyon and Sandra a couple of days before their wedding blessing in Winchester (see post below). We had some challenging good old British weather to contend with….. firstly some really strong winds whilst photographing against some of London’s famous landmarks followed by an almighty thunderstorm shower with hail which we managed to dodge just in time by grabbing a taxi back to the hotel! After a break for lunch and a change of clothing the rain stopped and we managed to take some more photographs in Green Park just across the street from the hotel. Just loved working with this wonderful couple and I look forward to keeping in touch with them over the years.
It was great to be working with make up artist Amy Brandon again on this shoot and having her with us for the wedding blessing day.Lx
Amyon and Sandra were married in Hong Kong earlier this year and then came to the UK to have their wedding blessing at Amyon’s old school, Winchester College with his family and friends. A really fitting venue and we had the most glorious spring day – blue skies without a single cloud all day – perfect! Winchester College, founded in the 14th Century is believed to be the oldest continuously running school in the country. The Chantry where the blessing service was held was the location for the death scene of Jean Valjean (played by Hugh Jackman) in the movie, Les Miserables. A wonderful place to record a wedding blessing.
It was such a pleasure to spend time with this wonderful couple and to be part of their journey capturing this special chapter of their lives together.
We also had a fun shoot two days earlier in London – images coming up in the next post! Lx
Photographing Emma and Dave’s wedding at Danesfield house was a real treat for me, not least because I had not photographed a wedding in quite a while… this had been a conscious decision I had made a couple of years ago when I was restructuring my business.
However when Emma and Dave came to see me and asked me to photograph their day I was reminded of what an honour it is to be asked to record that special day for a young couple in love and rather surprisingly I found myself agreeing to be their photographer!
Here are some images from their beautiful day at the end of March at Danesfield House Hotel, the perfect setting for the vintage colours and feel of this wedding. Lx
I was recently commissioned by Steve Sowerby, founder of Xpotential to create a unique image of an ‘eye’ to represent the brand of the company and be synonymous with Xpotential.
XPotential is a strategic consultancy company based in Marlow working with major clients, categories and geographies. Understanding that brand/s are the most important asset in any business, the XPotential team align individuals, functions and organizations to create and deliver brand equity. As a team of outstanding individuals, they pride themselves on delivering more than is expected of them and going that extra mile. XPotential’s personality and values are perceived by their clients as being friendly, professional, inspiring, innovative, dynamic, open and engaging. The imagery created needed to reflect these values.
The new image is now fully integrated into the company’s branding across all media and publications and with the recent launch of their newly updated web site featuring the ‘eye’ and some corporate portraits that I photographed for them, I thought it was worthy of a mention. Check out the new web site here. Lx
Take ‘two Italian men, two different backgrounds, one big idea…..to create great tasting food with a real difference.’
Roberto and Giuseppe are long time friends who have joined together in business to develop and bring to market their innovative snack product, Pastinos. ‘Roberto, with the Italian flair in the kitchen, Giuseppe with the business know-how to bring great ideas to life. Both sharing the same passion for food and not just any food, Italian food.’
I was approached by Peter Meadows from The Garden Marketing Consultants to photograph a series of B&W images to use for the new web site and marketing materials for the launch of Roberto and Giuseppe’s new pasta snack.
The aim was to capture images of the two business partners taken in an informal setting within the kitchen of a private home. The images of the two friends needed to be relaxed and non posed taken whilst they are interacting with each other, having fun and just being themselves in order to capture the spirit of their friendship and working relationship.
To see more images from this shoot and to find out about this exciting and deliciuos new product and where you can purchase it, check out their web site here. Lx
Last Saturday I was invited by Canon to take part in photographing the London Fashion Week, one of the world’s highest profile fashion designer showcases.
Being a long time user of Canon photographic equipment and a member of their Canon Professional Services, I was very excited to be invited to experience this prestigious event which is held at Somerset House in the heart of London and is organised by the British Fashion Council.
It was a great opportunity to experience standing in the photographers pit and to photograph some of the catwalk shows.
Here are some images from the trend fashion shows and a wonderful collection from Alice by Temperley which were introduced by Carloline Flack.

A thoroughly enjoyable time – thanks Canon! Lx
